WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior Amber Bepko earned America East Preseason All-Conference honors on Tuesday as announced by the league office. Bepko enters 2013-14 as the Hawks leading returning scorer, averaging 10.0 points-per-game.
Bepko is one of three juniors honored by the league, joining Albany's Megan Craig and Stony Brook's Sabre Proctor. One senior received the conference honor, New Hampshire's Kelsey Hogan, while Albany's Shereesha Richards, a sophomore, rounds out the pre-season team.
Despite missing seven games due to injury, Bepko was one of two Hawks to finish in double figures and earned America East All-Conference Second Team accolades. The postseason award in 2012-13 is the second-straight season the Guilford, Conn. native has been honored, earning All-Rookie distinction in 2011-12.
Overall, Bepko finished 12 games scoring in double figures including back-to-back 20 point performances, the latter of which was a career-high 21 points against Maine on February 13. In conference play, Bepko increased her scoring average to 10.8 points-per-game.
Bepko led Hartford's three point efforts with a career-high 44 long range buckets, shooting 35.8 percent from beyond the arc. Overall, Bepko shot 39.9 percent (79-of-198), while she also led the Hawks with 58 steals and dished out 48 assists.
The University of Hartford women's basketball team will open the 2012-13 schedule against the national powerhouse Connecticut Huskies on Saturday, November 9. Hartford and UConn are scheduled to tipoff at 4 p.m. at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.Â
