West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford women's basketball team made its first ever appearance in the Associated Press Women's Basketball poll on Monday when they earned 114 votes. The AP Poll is made up of 40 voters who represent different media outlets throughout the country who focus on the coverage of women's basketball.
The Hawks, who earned their school record 16th straight victory on Sunday against Boston University, received votes from 31 of the 40 voters to push them into the AP top-25 for the first time.
Hartford has been ranked in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll for each of the last two weeks, making their first ever top-25 appearance in the coaches poll on February 8. The Hawks have been receiving votes in the AP top-25 since January 18 when they made their first appearance with three votes in the 10th week of the poll.
The Hawks are the second America East team to earn AP recognition this season as the Vermont Catamounts spent one week as the 24th team in the weekly poll. Vermont's appearance in the AP Poll came on January 8.
Hartford will return to action on Wednesday for the first of two games in the final week of the regular season. The first will be at Albany at 7:00 p.m. before returning to Chase Arena for the regular season finale against Vermont on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Prior to the Vermont game, the Hawks will honor their four seniors Erica Beverly, Diana Delva, Jenna Peterson and Kacey Pratt.
