Hawks Present American Cancer Society with $2,800 for Coaches vs. Cancer

West Hartford, CT – The University of Hartford men's basketball team hosted their Second Annual Coaches vs. Cancer game on Saturday, January 23 and raised over $2,800 for the American Cancer Society. The University of Hartford athletics staff, men's basketball coaches and University of Maine Black Bear coaches helped promote the theme “Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers” by wearing tennis shoes during the game.

Fifty-percent of ticket sales, game day program sales and game sponsorships helped generate $2,800 from the University of Hartford. Director of Athletics Patricia Meiser presented the check to American Cancer Society representative, Michael Alves, during the second half of the game.

The University of Hartford marketing department helped highlight the event by passing out 1,000 Coaches vs. Cancer t-shirts to fans and students. “The Hartford White Out promotion has become a mainstay in marketing our efforts. Students and Fans love to become a part of the team for the day,” said Assistant Director of Marketing, Laurie Fasciano. “This helped build a great home court advantage for our student-athletes.”

The overall attendance of 1,345 at the Chase Arena was the highest of the season, almost twenty-percent above the current average attendance for the Hawks. The University of Hartford will continue their cancer fund raising efforts when the women's basketball team hosts Boston University on Sunday, February 21 at 2:00 p.m. as part of the WBCA's PinkZone week.
