Lundholm Gymnasium went from bedlam to stoned silence in five seconds flat. Joe Zeglinski banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer, just five seconds after New Hampshire’s Alvin Abreu hit a fadeaway jumper from the left corner to tie the score and send the crowd of 2,073 into a frenzy. Zeglinski’s bucket, launched from just inside the three-point line, gave the Hawks a 57-54 victory and handed them their first season sweep of the Wildcats since 2004.
The Hartford men's basketball team looks return to its winning ways on Saturday, when they take on the New Hampshire Wildcats at Lundholm Gymnasium at 4 p.m. The Hawks (6-16, 4-5) defeated New Hampshire (8-11, 3-5) earlier this season, 56-53 in West Hartford.
Coming into the game as the top three-point shooting team in the America East, the Hartford men's basketball team saw its percentage take a hit on Wednesday night, knocking down just 4-of-25 from beyond the arc as they fell to first-place Stony Brook, 54-44. The Hawks did not let their off night on offense affect their defense, though, as they held the Seawolves under 40% from the floor.
The Hartford men’s basketball team hung on for a 64-62 victory at Albany on Wednesday night, wrapping up the first half of their America East schedule at 4-4. Junior Joe Zeglinski led all scorers with 21 points. He was 3-for-9 from beyond the arc, moving past Aaron Cook and into the top spot in the Hartford record books with 278 career three-pointers made.
The University of Hartford men’s basketball team hosted their Second Annual Coaches vs. Cancer game on Saturday, January 23 and raised over $2,800 for the American Cancer Society. The University of Hartford athletics staff, men’s basketball coaches and University of Maine Black Bear coaches helped promote the theme “Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers” by wearing tennis shoes during the game.
