BOSTON – Freshman
Chandler Mitchell from the Hartford softball team was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the organization announced Monday.
Mitchell earned her first career honor after batting .667 (4-for-6), while tallying five runs and four stolen bases over a three-game series at Maine this past weekend. In game two against the Black Bears, she went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, adding three runs while swiping three bases in a 10-1 win on Saturday.
The Voorhees, N.J., native leads the Hawks with five stolen bases and seven runs scored. Batting .375, she ranks second on the team in the category.
Mitchell becomes the second Hawk to earn Rookie of the Week honors, joining classmate
Zoe Truxon, who took home the accolade on March 29.
Mitchell and the Hawks, who will be idle this weekend due to COVID-19 protocols with UMass Lowell's program, return to the diamond on Saturday, April 24, for a three-game series at UAlbany. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
