Jackson Olson from the Hartford baseball team was named the America East Baseball Scholar-Athlete, the organization announced on Thursday.
Olson becomes the fourth player in program history to take home America East Baseball Scholar-Athlete honors, joining Steve Matthews (1993), Brian Biskupiak (1997) and David MacKinnon (2015, 2016, 2017).
"Jackson did an unbelievable job of juggling the demands of college baseball while excelling in the classroom," said head baseball coach
Justin Blood. "He is the epitome of a student-athlete."
Olson has been sensational in the classroom throughout his entire career. Last month, he became the sixth player in program history to earn America East All-Academic Team honors in each of the three seasons he was eligible for the award. A three-time America East Commissioner's Honor Roll member, Olson graduated with a 3.82 GPA as a marketing major.
On the field, Olson was been a standout infielder since arriving at Hartford, starting in 146 of 161 career games. A career .287 hitter who has belted out 161 hits —including 30 doubles, four triples and four home runs — he adds 60 career runs and 57 RBI. In addition, Olson, who was named to the 2018 America East All-Tournament Team after helping lead the Hawks to their first conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, recorded the third-most hits (68) in a single season in 2019.
