Flowers Lands AE Rookie of the Week Honors

BOSTON — For the second time this season, freshman Moses Flowers from the Hartford men's basketball team was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. It marks the third time in as many weeks that the Hawks landed a Rookie of the Week honoree.

With Flowers' most recent honor, the Hawks have had three different freshmen combine for five America East Rookie of the Week awards. Forward Miroslav Stafl received the accolade in back-to-back weeks (Dec. 23, Dec. 30), while PJ Henry was named the league's top rookie after opening week, on Nov. 11.

The five Rookie of the Week honors are the most in a single season for Hartford since 2007-08, when Morgan Sabia (four times) and Kevin Estes set the program record after combining for five accolades.

Flowers averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two games for Hartford last week, helping the team go 1-1 during that stretch. Pulling down a career-high eight rebounds in a setback at Bowling Green on New Year's Eve, the guard matched a career high in scoring with 28 points in the Hawks' conference-opening 61-52 win against New Hampshire on Saturday.

Previously setting his career high last month against St. Francis Brooklyn, the 28-point outings mark the most points scored in a game by a Hartford freshman since 2002, when Charles Ford netted 30 against Maine.

Flowers has been a major contributor for the Hawks this season. He is tied for 16th in the America East in scoring with 11.7 points per game, while his 1.9 three-point field goals per game and 1.4 steals per outing rank ninth and sixth in the conference, respectively.

Flowers and the Hawks look to go 2-0 in conference play for the first time since 2012-13 on Wednesday, when they head to UMass Lowell. Tipoff from the Tsongas Center is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
