Hartford Student-Athletes Post 3.0 GPA for 26th Straight Semester

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford Department of Athletics saw its student-athletes post another successful semester in the classroom this spring. The Hawks combined to earn a 3.25 departmental grade point average for the spring 2019 semester, marking the 26th consecutive semester Hartford's student-athletes have finished with at least a 3.0 departmental GPA.

Individually, Hartford saw 253 (71 percent) of its student-athletes earn a 3.0 GPA or better, while 161 (45 percent) posted a 3.5 or better. Additionally, the Hawks saw 46 student-athletes post a perfect 4.0 this spring.

All but three of Hartford's 17 teams finished with at least a 3.0 GPA this spring. Setting the pace for the Hawks was the women's volleyball team with a combined team GPA of 3.78, followed by women's soccer (3.68), softball (3.56) and women's cross country (3.50). Men's basketball led the men's teams with an overall GPA of 3.31.

The University of Hartford Department of Athletics has set the academic standard in the America East, as the Hawks will be vying for the Walter Harrison Academic Cup for the third-straight year. Last year, Hartford combined for a 3.37 GPA — the highest GPA recorded by an America East institution — to win the Academic Cup for the sixth time in the last seven years.

Named after former University of Hartford President Walter Harrison in 2017, the Walter Harrison Academic Cup is awarded to the America East institution with the highest overall GPA each year.
