Slayton Named America East co-Defensive Player of the Week

BOSTON — Jimmy Slayton from the Hartford men's soccer team was named the America East co-Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, the organization announced on Monday. The senior tallied a career-high 11 saves in the 1-0 shutout win over Binghamton on Saturday. The win saw the Hawks clinch a spot in the America East Tournament.

The last time a Hartford player won four conference Player of the Week Honors in a single season was in 2003, when Alon Lubezky was a four-time Player of the Week honoree.

Slayton currently ranks seventh in school history in career wins (24), sixth in career saves (271), third in career GAA (1.11) and second in career shutouts (20). He also sits third in the nation in shutouts (9) and ranks second in the conference in GAA (0.96) and third in save percentage (.802).

The award is Slayton's seventh career honor after being named Defensive Player of the Week three times this season. He was also named co-Defensive Player of the Week once last season and America East Rookie of the Week twice his freshman season.

The Wethersfield, Conn., native is the second player to receive a weekly award in 2019, after freshman midfielder Addrian Knights-Browne was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 9, after scoring the game-winner against Brown.

Slayton and the Hawks wrap up its 2019 regular season with an America East clash against UMass Lowell on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
