BOSTON – A career week for
George Blagojevic led the senior to America East Player of the Week honors, the organization announced on Monday. Blagojevic had a pair of impressive performances for the Hartford men's basketball team last week, averaging 27.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists to lead the Hawks to wins against Bryant and Oakland.
The award is the first career weekly honor for Blagojevic, and the second for a Hawk this season, as senior
Jason Dunne was named Player of the Week on Dec. 3.
Blagojevic got his week going with a bang, compiling his second double-double of the season to lead Hartford to a 91-74 win at Bryant on Wednesday. A native of Geelong, Australia, he posted the Hawks' first 30-point performance since classmate
Travis Weatherington dropped 34 against Binghamton last season (Jan. 17), tallying a career-high 30 points on 11-of-14 shooting while adding a personal-best 15 rebounds.
In addition, Blagojevic's double-double against the Bulldogs produced the highest point/rebound output since
Pancake Thomas had 35 points and 17 boards against Rider on Dec. 30, 2015.
Blagojevic had another explosive offensive performance against Oakland on Sunday, scoring a team-high 24 points, shooting 8-of-11 shooting from the field to pace the Hawks to an 87-82 victory. The forward also stuffed the stat sheet with team-best numbers in rebounds (7), assists (5) and steals (4).
On the week, Blagojevic shot a sizzling 76.0 percent from the field (19-of-25), improving his season percentage to 54.2 percent for the second-best mark in the America East. He also ranks among the America East's top-15 in scoring (14.4 ppg – 12th), rebounding (8.2 rpg – 2nd), steals (1.3 spg – 7th) and blocked shots (0.6 bpg – 14th).
Blagojevic and the Hawks will break for finals before returning to action on Saturday, Dec. 22, with a road tilt at Wagner. Tipoff from Staten Island, N.Y., is slated for 2 p.m.
