Diana Delva playing for Panathinakos in the Greek League

Where Are They Now with Diana Delva (April 30, 2013): The newest installment of the  Where Are They Now feature catches up with former Hawk Diana Delva who was trhe 2010 America East Player of the Year and recently led Panathinakos to a Greek Championship. Watch highlights of Diana's Greek Championship here: http://youtu.be/e3FsRRJQ5Ow

Delva was the 2010 America East player of the year, leading Hartford to a 27-5 record and the first national ranking in school history when the Hawks were ranked as high as 19th in the country. After graduating from Hartford she signed a training camp contract with the WNBA’s San Antonio Silver Stars before heading to Athens, Greece where she currently resides. This year she averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, leading Panathinakos to a Greek Championship.

If you asked me after my senior year at the University of Hartford in 2010 where I would be three years later, I definitely wouldn't have said playing professional basketball overseas.  Thankfully I was at a respected basketball program that opened the door for me to be able to do so. I currently play and live in Athens, Greece. I've been here for about two and a half years on and off. I've played three seasons and actually stayed here last summer since I liked it so much. Life here is very different from back home. The lifestyle is way more relaxed with everyone going for afternoon coffee and meals by the beach which definitely suites my personality.

For the past two years I have been playing for Panathinakos, which is one of the oldest and biggest clubs in Greece. The club has a huge fan base which packs our homes games with fans singing chants and team song throughout the games.  This makes for a really exciting atmosphere. This season we won the Greek championship win a record of 21-1. It was the team’s first championship since 2003 so I'm definitely proud to add to the clubs history.

Playing here is different from college basketball. There are differences from the organization to the style of play. On my team we have players from 17 to 35 years of age. The style of play is different from how the call fouls and travels. So I've had to adjust a few things. But overall the transition for college to overseas was pretty easy for me and I’ve really enjoyed it so far!
