The University of Hartford softball team managed four hits Wednesday in falling to Bryant, 5-0, at the Hartford Softball Field.
Mara Sczecienski extended her hitting streak to eight games with her fifth multi-hit game of the season. The second baseman was 2-for-4 on the day, accounting for half of the Hawks' knocks.
Olivia Wolk and
Samantha Nagel were responsible for the other two Hartford hits.
Bryant took the lead with a single run in the first, added three runs in the fifth and another in the seventh. The three-run fifth could have been more harmful, but
Caylee English came in to slam the door. Faced with a bases-loaded, no-out situation, English struck out back-to-back batters and induced a weak popup to second.
English was clutch in the circle, striking out half of the 14 batters she faced over three innings. The senior allowed one earned run on one hit with seven strikeouts and three walks in her outing.
Lauren Card, 3-2, took the loss – allowing four runs, three earned – on six hits over four innings. She had three strikeouts and four walks.
Hartford (5-11) is slated to return to action 2:30 p.m. Sunday, hosting Manhattan in a doubleheader. The contest was originally scheduled for Saturday, but impending inclement weather caused the change.
