Baseball Mounts Late Comeback, Takes Down UAlbany, 12-11, to Win Series

The Hawks used eight runs in the final three innings to secure the series victory over the Great Danes. HARTFORD 12, UALBANY 11
Hartford started the series finale like they started game two, taking an early lead. With one out, Derek Tenney drew a walk before Tremayne Cobb Jr. singled to right, outing runners on the corners. Cobb Jr. would steal second base and Tenney used heads up base running, advancing home on the throw to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Daniel Burnett wasted little time adding onto the advantage, doubling down the left field line, plating Cobb Jr. and extending the lead to 2-0. However, UAlbany would tie the game at 2-2 after the second inning.

The Great Danes would take a 6-2 lead heading into the fifth, where the Hawks started to fight back, putting up two runs of their own. Kevin Koziol would draw a walk, setting up Tenney who launched a no-doubt homerun over the left field fence, cutting the deficit to 6-4. UAlbany would plate five runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth though, taking an 11-4 edge. Hartford would not go down without a fight though, tacking on three runs in the seventh. Koziol and Tenney would both get on base, brining Burnett up to bat. Burnett would rip a double to the left center gap, bringing home two runs and cutting the gap to 11-6. Ben Maycock would follow it up with a single of his own, scoring Burnett and moving the score to 11-7.

Hartford would continue to keep their foot on the gas, carrying its momentum over into the eighth inning. The Hawks started off strong, loading the bases after the first three batters. Koziol would take full advantage of the situation, showing some patience and drawing a walk, bringing home a run and cutting the gap to 11-8. Tenney would follow up the walk with a sacrifice fly, setting up Cobb Jr., who singled up the middle, scoring Logan Cole and bringing the Hawks within one, 11-10. Burnett would single to load the bases again, allowing Koziol to show off some savy baserunning, scoring from a wild pitch and tying the game. After Maycock drew another walk to reload the bases, Brett Anderson took one for the team, getting hit by a pitch and completing the comeback as Cobb Jr. scored and gave the Hawks a 12-11 edge.

Will Nowak would enter the game in the bottom of the eighth, looking to pick up the save. The closer would dominate on the mound, picking up three shutouts in the final two innings, shutting the door and giving the Hawks the comeback victory, 12-11, and winning the series over UAlbany.
