Ingram Ties Hartford's Single Game Scoring Record as Hawks Pummel Iona, 6-0

THE BASICS:

RESULT: Hartford 6, Iona 0
RECORDS: Hartford (2-1-0); Iona (1-4-0)
LOCATION: Mazzella Field (New Rochelle, N.Y.)
THE LEAD: Junior Tori Tripp scored a pair of first-half goals, and classmate Aaliyah Ingram had three of her team's four markers in the second as the University of Hartford women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 victory on Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Thursday. Adding a pair of assists to their counts, Tripp racked up a career-high in the contest with six points while Ingram tied a program and America East single game scoring record with eight points. Junior Jessica Jurg made three saves in goal for Hartford in its second shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

·         Junior Tori Tripp scored in the 17th and 25th minutes to send Hartford into the locker rooms with a comfortable 2-0 lead over Iona. Setting up the tallies was classmate Aaliyah Ingram.

·         Hartford continued to bombard Iona's defense out of the gates in the second half as Ingram struck twice within a 92-second stretch just three minutes into the half. The junior first put the finishing touches on a Tripp rebound, heading in the contest's third tally in the 48th minute. She then sent a blast towards the upper 90, clear out of reach of Iona's keeper Taylor Rice, to double Hartford's halftime advantage in the 50th minute.

·         Also getting in on the second-half scoring action was freshman Julia Carr. The rookie striker made it three goals for the Hawks within a five-minute stretch with her second career marker. Setting up the play with a pass from the goal line was Tripp.

·         Ingram added her third goal late, and made it a commanding 6-0 Hartford lead in the 79th minute. Elise Galipo earned the assist, as her cross was in perfect place for Ingram to head into the back of the net at the goal line.

·         Hartford limited Iona's chances throughout the match as the Gaels saw just three shots on goal

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

·         Junior Aaliyah Ingram netted three goals and assisted on two others for eight points while classmate Tori Tripp finished with six points (two goals, two assists) to lead the Hawks to the 6-0 oust of Iona

·         Hartford topped Iona in shot attempts (17-8) and corner kicks (5-2)

·         The Hawks also held a commanding 12-3 advantage in shots on goal

·         In net, junior Jessica Jurg (2-1-0) made three saves to earn her second shutout of the season; her counterpart, Taylor Rice, finished with a game-best six saves in 82-plus minutes

NEWS & NOTES:

·         Junior Aaliyah Ingram's career-high eight-point outing ties a program and conference single game scoring record. The striker shares the record with Hawk Sidney Spremullo and former Hartford striker Amelia Pereira. Spremullo had eight points against UMass Lowell last season while Pereira recorded her school-record outing in the 2010 season in a 6-2 victory over Vermont.

·         Entering the season with just two career goals, Ingram has more than doubled that output with five goals through three contests this season. In addition, Thursday's three-goal outing marked Ingram's second multi-goal game of 2015.

·         Ingram's hat trick marks the Hawks' first of the season.

·         Sophomore Tori Tripp also enjoyed a career day as she netted her first goal as a collegian and chalked-up her first-ever multi-goal game. Adding a pair of assists, she finished with a career-best six points.

·         Freshman Julia Carr added a goal in the contest, boosting her point total to five (two goals, one assist)

·         Hartford's six goals marks the team's highest offensive output since 2010, when it defeated Vermont by a 6-2 count on Oct. 14, 2010.

·         The six-goal triumph is the largest margin of victory under 12th-year head coach John Natale, and is the program's largest margin of victory since defeating Fordham, 8-0, on Sept. 1, 2002.

·         Hartford has never lost to Iona as it improves to 6-0-1 in the all-time series with the Gaels.

UP NEXT:
Hartford opens up a four-game homestand on Sunday afternoon when it welcomes the Sacred Heart Pioneers to Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. The Hawks have topped the Pioneers in each of the last two seasons. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
