Badenko, Isaacson and Holdstein Earn Singles Wins in 4-3 Loss to Siena

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.—Jordan Badenko, Josh Isaacson and Alex Holdstein all recorded victories in singles play, but it was not enough for the Hartford men's tennis team as they dropped a closely contested, 4-3, match at home against the Siena Saints Tuesday afternoon.

Badenko, a junior transfer from Sydney, Australia, led the Hawks from the No. 1 singles position. After dropping the first set, 4-6, to Siena's Ryan Schmitz, Badenko returned with a 6-4 triumph in the second set before pulling away for a 10-6 win in the tiebreak to take the match and earn a point for the Hawks.

Badenko also scored an 8-4 victory in doubles play, teaming with freshman Nicholas Sharwarko to pick up a win at No. 1 doubles. Siena took the Nos. 2 and 3 matches to take the doubles point.

At the No. 4 singles slot, Isaacson, a senior, cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win. Holdstein, a junior, notched a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles to grab a point for Hartford.

However, Siena picked up a split in singles play, winning the Nos. 2, 3 and 5 matches to get to four points and pick up the match win.

The Hawks will take the court in West Hartford one more time this season as they host the Fairfield Stags on Thursday afternoon. The Hartford men will then wrap up the regular season on the road at Boston University April 21 before heading to Baltimore, Md., for the 2013 America East Chmapionship tournament.
