Hawks Split Singles Decisions at Southern New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, N.H.—The University of Hartford men picked up a trio of singles wins Friday night on the road at Southern New Hampshire Saturday night. Despite splitting the singles decisions, the Hawks dropped the match, 5-4, after dropping two of three doubles contests to the host Penmen.
 
Josh Isaacson, Luis Montes and Alex Holdstein each secured singles points for the Hawks in Saturday's match. Isaacson, a senior from Marietta, Ga., breezed through his first set in the No. 4 singles position, 6-2, over Southern New Hampshire's Brad Malenich. Isaacson then closed the door on Malenich with a 7-5 win in the second set to take the match.
 
At the No. 5 slot, Montes, a freshman, fought off Evan Eaton for a 7-6 victory in the first set. Montes then notched a decisive 6-3 win in the second set to take the point.
 
Holdstein dominated his singles match at the No. 6 position. The junior from Hastings on Hudson, N.Y., posted a 6-0 victory in the first set and a 6-0 shutout victory in the second set over Mark Dobek.
 
The Penmen won the top-three singles decisions to split the singles points, 3-3.
 
The Penmen won the match in doubles play, taking two out of three doubles matches. Hartford the win at No. 2 doubles, as Marco Neves and Isaacson combined for an 8-2 win. However, Southern New Hampshire came away with an 8-6 victory in the No. 1 doubles match and an 8-2 victory in the No. 3 doubles match to take the 5-4 win overall.
 
The Hawk men are back in action this coming Saturday, Feb. 23, when they head to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to take on the Boston College Eagles.
