BOSTON, Mass.—The University of Hartford men's and women's track and field teams had a strong showing at the Jay Carisella Invitational at Boston's Reggie Lewis Center Saturday, despite a small contingent. With six student-athletes competing, the Hawks turned in five personal records, five top-eight finishes, two New England-qualifying times, a school record and a victory.

Leading the way was senior Megan Barry, who set a school record and qualified for the New England Championship on her way to winning the women's 3,000 meters. Barry covered the distance in a time of 9:54.07, breaking her own school record by more than four seconds. Sophomore Sara Buckley also ran well in the 3,000 meters, taking seventh place with a time of 10:59.58.

On the men's side, each of the four entrants set personal-best times. Sophomore Michael MacLean paced the Hartford men with a second-place finish in the 800-meter run. MacLean crossed the line with a personal-best time of 1:55.72. MacLean's time qualified him for the New England Championship.

In the 3,000 meters, a pair of Hawks finished in the top-20 with personal records. Senior Andrew Dwyer raced to an eighth-place finish with a time of 8:46.75 while sophomore Christopher Helminski finished 19th in 9:11.41.

Senior John Busque wrapped up the Hartford entries at the meet with a sixth-place time of 15:06.78, a personal-best, in the men's 5,000 meters.

The Hawks are off until 2014 when they return to Boston to resume the indoor schedule at the Joe Donahue Indoor Games on January 24 and the Terrier Invitational January 24-25.
