WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –
Head coach Peter Lawrence and the University of Hartford men's lacrosse team have announced that they will be taking part in the fifth annual Catamount Classic – Lacrosse for a Cure, marking the third-straight season that the squad participates in the event. All proceeds from the event will be donated to testicular cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

In an effort to help raise additional money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, the men's lacrosse team is again putting its own spin on the event and bringing back the “Stache for Cash.” Each member of the Hawks' men's lacrosse team, including the coaching staff, is growing a moustache and will maintain it until the Catamount Classic. To donate to “Stache for Cash,” fill out the donation form and email to coach Lawrence at
CoachLaw@hartford.edu. Commemorative “Stache for Cash” tee-shirts will be distributed to the first 100 people who make a donation greater than $20.

This year's Catamount Classic – Lacrosse for a Cure will be held on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 at Thayer Academy's off-campus turf fields in Braintree, Mass. Nine NCAA Division I women's lacrosse teams will kick off the event with scrimmages on Saturday while the 18 men's lacrosse teams will take the field on Sunday.

Joining the Hawks and host-team Catamounts in 2012 are Brown, Holy Cross, Hobart, Providence, Siena, Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart. Rounding out the field are nine Division II and Division III men's lacrosse programs: AIC, Bentley, Endicott, LIU Post, Merrimack, New England College, Southern New Hampshire, Springfield and St. Michael's College.

The Hartford men are scheduled to play two full-length scrimmages, starting with Hobart at 8:00 a.m. and wrapping up with Providence at 10:00 a.m.

In 2007, a member of the Vermont lacrosse team was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Following surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, he was able to start for the lacrosse team that spring. Although he was treated in Vermont, the player followed a treatment plan from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and is in full remission. Vermont head coach Ryan Curtis and his wife, Kelly, who worked at the Institute, collaborated with the men's lacrosse team and started the Catamount Classic – Lacrosse for a Cure, in 2008.

In its inaugural year, the Catamount Classic raised nearly $20,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and in four years, the event has donated close to $130,000 to cancer research.
