ALL-CONFERENCE RELEASE
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior
Aneil Bhalla and graduate student
Abby Liu were selected to the 2012 America East Tennis All-Conference Second Team as announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon.
Bhalla, a senior from Ottawa, Ontario, makes his first appearance on the men's America East All-Conference team. Bhalla led the Hawks in wins this Spring, producing an 8-5 record in dual-match play as the Hawks' No. 2 singles player. The senior ran off a string of six consecutive singles victories from April 5-15, helping the Hawks notch a pair of wins as a team. Bhalla also won his match against Boston University in the first round of the America East Conference Championship, 6-4, 6-3.
Bhalla is also a two-time America East All-Academic selection.
On the women's side,
Abby Liu also earned a nod to the second team. A transfer from the University of Texas, Liu amassed a 20-6 record in her only season at Hartford. Included in that record was an 11-5 mark in dual-match play and a 9-4 record from the No. 1 singles position this Spring.
In the Fall, Liu won a pair of tournament titles, winning the singles crown at both the Quinnipiac Invitational and the New England Championships.
Bhalla is the first Hartford man to earn an America East All-Conference selection since 2005 when Clint Broadie and Jeff Hurlbert earned the honors. Liu is the first Hawk woman to grace an all-conference team since Halley Werner in 2004.
