HARVARD OPEN – COMPLETE RESULTS
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The University of Hartford track and field teams wrapped up a split-squad weekend with some student-athletes competing at the Harvard Open Saturday while another group of Hawks competed at the Elm City Challenge, hosted by Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, Conn., on Friday afternoon.
The Hawks finished in the top-10 in 10 of their events at Harvard while also turning in a school record. The Elm City Challenge saw six Hartford victories and a record-breaking performance. The Hawk men took a second-place team finish with 29 points. The women took third at the Elm City Challenge amassing 20 points. There was no team scoring at Harvard.
Sophomore
Tiffany Harrison earned the top spot in the women's 500-meter dash at the Harvard Open, leading a trio of Hawks into the top-five in the event. Harrison posted a winning time of 1:17.46. Harrison's time qualifies her for the New England Championships. Senior
Priscilla Appiagyei took third in the event with a mark of 1:18.83 while senior
Natalie Bonham ran to fourth with a time of 1:21.76.
Junior
Megan Barry picked up another top-five finish for the Hawk women in the 3,000 meters. Barry finished fifth with her time of 10:20.05, a personal best that also qualifies her for the New England Championship.
Freshman
Opeyemi Osuntuyi also qualified for New Englands in the process of breaking a school record. Osuntuyi posted a mark of 8.50 seconds in the preliminary round of the 55-meter hurdles. The freshman broke the old mark of 8.71 seconds, set in 2009. Osuntuyi finished 12th in the event at Harvard.
Also for the Hartford women at Harvard, sophomore
Sam Crisafulli took seventh place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.60, freshman
Maggie Fuller jumped to ninth place in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.45 meters, and the 4x440-yard relay team passed the baton to a fourth-place finish.
A trio of Hartford men raced to top-10 results at Harvard. Junior
John Busque picked up an eighth-place finish in the 3,000-meters with a personal-best time of 8:47.15. In the 500-meter dash, freshman
Eric Tahtamoni and junior
Jared Casey tied for ninth place with matching times of 1:07.79.
Freshman
Michael MacLean highlighted the Hartford results at the Elm City Challenge, continuing a strong start to his initial indoor campaign, running his way into the record book with a first-place finish in the men's 600-meter dash Friday. MacLean took the top spot with a time of 1:24.99, breaking the old record of 1:26.42. Senior Chris Rodriguez, the previous record holder, set a personal best in the race, finishing on MacLean's heels at 1:25.00 to take second.
MacLean and Rodriguez also teamed with freshman Dan Fernandez and sophomore
Bryan Quitadamo to pick up a victory in the 4x800 relay, moving the baton around the track for a winning time of 8:26.59.
In the 3,000 meters, junior
Andrew Dwyer and freshman
Charles Davis went one-two with times of 8:53.03 and 9:11.65, respectively.
The Hawk men took the top four spots in the 200-meter dash as
Michael Iosebashvili sprinted to the win with a time of 24.22 seconds, finishing ahead of teammates
Erik Quitzau, Errol Hudson and
Kevin Doxey. Quitzau posted a time of 24.69 seconds while Hudson stopped the clock at 25.31 and Doxey turned in a mark of 25.42.
Quitzau earned another top-three finish in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing third. The junior posted a time of 8.26, a personal-best mark and just one one-hundredth of a second off the school-record pace.
Fernandez and junior
Rashawn Providence also earned top-three finishes for the Hartford men. Fernandez finished second in the mile run with a time of 4:38.46 while Providence took third in the triple jump with an indoor career best mark of 13.48 meters.
On the women's side, junior
Jennifer Flores led the Hawks with a win in the mile run Friday. Competing in the mile for the first time since her freshman campaign, Flores posted a career-best time of 5:24.60.
Freshman
Aika Aluc also earned a victory, leading a Hartford podium sweep in the 200-meter dash. Aluc stopped the clock at 27.83 with
Nicole Stanko and
Samantha Makin following with a times of 31.10 and 32.29, respectively.
In the 600-meter run, sophomore
Haley Rice picked up a third-place result with a time of 1:52.83.
Opeyemi Osuntuyi earned two third-place finishes Friday before her record-setting performance on Saturday. The freshman took third in both the 55-meter hurdles and the 400-meter dash.
Hartford takes some time away from the track for winter break. It will be six weeks before the Hawks are back in competition when both squads head to Rhode Island on January 19, 2013.
