Mary Silvia Scores Academic All-District First Team Honors from COSIDA

WEST HARTFORD, CONN. – Senior Mary Silvia scored the first off the court honor of the 2010-11 season for a Hawks women's basketball player when she was named one of five members of the 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District First Team. Silvia joins fellow America East member Julie Forster from Albany, while the pair join an All-American in Maya Moore on the first team.

The All-District honor is the second academic honor in Silvia's four year career after she joined fellow teammate Jackie Smith on the America East All-Academic Team following the 2009-10 season. Silvia has also been a four year America East Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree for achieving a combined grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

On the court, Silvia currently leads the team in scoring, coming off the bench to average 9.5 points-per-game. Silvia leads the team in three point shooting, making 40 of her 111 attempts to average 36 percent from beyond the arc. Her 40 three pointers so far this season gives her 105 total for her career, which is currently fifth all-time.

This season, Silvia has led the team in scoring in six different games, while scoring in double figures in 10 games.  Most recently, Silvia scored a season-high 19 points in a home win over Stony Brook on January 26, while going 7-of-13 overall and 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.

The Hawks will next play at Albany as part of a double head with the men's team. The women will open up the Great Danes Big Purple Growl at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at SEFCU Arena, with the men to follow at 7:00 p.m.
