WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – University of Hartford softball coach Todd Randall announced the signing of shortstop Genevieve Morneau-Vaillancourt to a national letter of intent.
A native of Quebec City, Quebec, Morneau-Vaillancourt will be added to the Hawks' roster for the 2011 season. She is the third recruit signed by Randall for next year, joining second baseman Amber Andrews (Greenwood, Del./Milford Senior) and pitcher Kaitlyn Meade (Melville, N.Y./Ward Melville) who committed during the fall signing period.
“We are excited to add Genevieve to our 2011 class,” exclaimed Randall. “She is a quality student and young lady and we feel she possesses the work ethic and value system we want to add to our softball family. We think her future is bright as a student-athlete at the University of Hartford.”
Morneau-Vaillancourt played high school boys' baseball at Cardinal-Roy High School in Quebec City before attending Champlain St. Lawrence CEGEP. She was a member of the Canadian women's national baseball team where she led the squad to a national championship in 2009. Morneau-Vaillancourt was named the “best hitter” at the nationals in 2008 and helped her team post a second place finish, earning the silver medal in the event. In the 2007 season, the women's national baseball team took home the bronze medal, and captured the national championship in 2005.
In the classroom, Morneau-Vaillancourt posted the second-best average of Cardinal Roy's graduating class and was named the high school's student of the year in 2008. Once at Hartford, she will enroll in the College of Arts and Sciences and plans to major in psychology.
The Hawks conclude the 2010 regular season schedule with a three game conference series at Boston University. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 1:00 p.m. while Sunday's single game is scheduled to begin at 12 noon.
