University of Hartford Fall Academic Honor Roll Recipients
West Hartford, CT – The America East conference announced on Wednesday that 596 of its fall student-athletes, which includes 55 Hartford student-athletes, 30 of which received the highest distinction of Commissioner's Honor Roll for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
“The academic excellence our student-athletes continue to achieve is impressive,” said America East Commissioner Patrick Nero. “Their commitment to academic endeavors while balancing the rigors of being a Division I athlete, is what defines us as a conference more than anything else.”
Of the five Hartford team's eligible for the Fall Academic Honor Roll, the men's soccer team led the way with 16 student-athletes honored, eight of which were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
The women's cross country team led all Hawks team with the most student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll with nine, while placing 11 total on the Academic Honor Roll.
Rounding out the remaining teams were women's soccer with 12 student-athletes on the honor roll, five on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, volleyball with nine student-athletes on the honor roll, seven on the Commissioner's Honor Roll and men's cross country with seven student-athletes on the honor roll and one on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Following the fall season, the Hawks also had seven student-athletes named to their respective sports' All-Academic Team. Laura Guigli, Lauren Brodeur and Becky Flowers received the honor from women's soccer, while Nenad Cudic, Ivan Guarin and Cedomir Tomcic received the honor for men's soccer. Rounding out the All-Academic Team honors was junior Lindsay Ford from the volleyball team.
The America East is proud to have one of the most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country. In addition to the honor roll, an All-Academic team comprised of student-athletes that excel both academically and athletically is chosen in each of the conference's 20 sports by a committee consisting of faculty athletic representatives, academic advisors and sports information directors. Additionally, a scholar-athlete, someone who distinguishes his/herself as the top student-athlete in his/her sport, is awarded. From that group, one male and one female is selected the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Finally, the Academic Cup is awarded to the school with the highest cumulative GPA among its student-athletes for that academic year.
