Erica Beverly Receives Hometown Honor

GREENWICH, CONN. – Former Hawk and current women's basketball Director of Operations Erica Beverly was named the Bridgeport Sportsperson of the Year on Monday evening at the Fairfield Sports Commissions annual dinner at the Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich.

Beverly's honor is the first of its kind since concluding her collegiate playing days this past spring. She is one of the most decorated players in school history, including being named the America East Defensive Player of the Year as a senior, after helping lead the Hawks to a perfect 16-0 record in conference play and an eventual at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Beverly became the first player in school history to record more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Following her final season, Beverly stands as the fifth all-time leading scorer with 1,298 career points, while securing a total of 1,006 career rebounds.

Her career total in rebounding leads all players in the 35 year history of basketball at Hartford, while she also is the all-time leading in career blocks with 196 total. She also set individual season record for rebounds (271 in 2005-06) and blocks (65 in 2009-10).

The 2005 Rookie of the Year, closed out her career with the third-straight America East All-Conference First Team honor and the second-straight All-Defensive Team honor. During her tenure with the Hawks, Beverly helped lead the team to five-straight post season appearances, including three in the NCAA Tournament. Beverly was also a freshman on the program's first team to win an NCAA Tournament game, defeating Temple in 2006.

Prior to her collegiate career at Hartford, Beverly was an MVP on the Class S State Champion Kolbe Cathedral girls basketball team. While at Kolbe, Beverly won back-to-back state titles in 2004 and 2005, while also winning the Southwest Conference (SWC) Championship in 2005. She was a three-time Hartford Courant All-State honoree and was selected to the SWC All-Conference first team in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
