Howie's Sportsmanship Academy
West Hartford, CT - The America East S.T.A.R.S. Sportsmanship Initiative (STudent-athletes Advancing Respect through Sport) is a program that began this fall and will be débuting on the America East campuses throughout the month of October.
The ultimate goal of the initiative is for our conference student-athletes to promote positive sportsmanship to youth members of our local communities. Each school has the ability to do what they wish with this initiative and the University of Hartford has chosen to hold a one hour Sportsmanship Academy.
Howie's Sportsmanship Academy is a FREE event that will take place on Saturday, October 10 beginning at 6:00 p.m., prior to the start of the University of Hartford men's soccer game against conference-foe Boston University.
The Academy will include activities such as:

Speaking with NCAA Division-I sportsmanship award winner, Latasha Jarrett

Playing sportsmanship inspired games

Working with Hartford Student-athletes on fun activities (poster making, skit acting etc.)

Cheering in the stands with Hartford student-athletes at the men's soccer game
-
Accepting a Certificate of Sportsmanship on the field at half time
-
Participating in the high-five line with the Hartford men's soccer team at the conclusion of the game

Joining in a picture with the University of Hartford and Boston University men's soccer teams at the conclusion of the game
-
PLUS-One lucky academy graduate will be selected to tell the stadium what sportsmanship means to them at half time
Anyone eighth grade and below is welcome to join in the Academy. Those who attend will receive the following:

One free ticket to the men's soccer game

One free snack pack

Poster of the Hartford Hawks Fall sports teams

Poster they create at academy to use to cheer on the Hartford Hawks

Certificate of Sportsmanship
Also, all parents, chaperones and siblings will receive a discounted ticket of $3 to the game.
