West Hartford, CT - University of Hartford softball coach Todd Randall announced the 2010 schedule. The Hawks are scheduled to play a 45-game slate which includes 15 home contests held at the Hartford Softball Field in West Hartford.
Hartford begins its 2010 schedule at the Winthrop/adidas Invitational hosted by Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC. The Hawks face Eastern Kentucky and Delaware State on opening day (March 12), followed by dates with Towson and South Carolina Upstate on March 13. The Hawks close out the Invitational with an early morning contest against Winston Salem State on March 14.
The Hawks continue the season with their annual trip to Kissimmee, FL for the Rebel Spring Games. Hartford is slated to play eight games during its five-day visit to the Sunshine State, beginning with match-ups against Colgate and Lafayette on March 16. The Hawks will meet Cleveland State, a squad that made an appearance in the regionals of the 2009 NCAA Softball Championship, and will also face Saint Peter's, Manhattan and Rider before the conclusion of the Florida trip.
Hartford returns back north to the Nutmeg State for its home-opener, a three-game series against Maine beginning with a doubleheader on March 27 and a single-game on March 28. The Hawks' debut at the Hartford Softball Field also serves as the opening contest of the 18-game America East conference schedule. Other home conference series on Hartford's 2010 schedule include Albany (April 3-4) and UMBC (May 1-2).
Three non-conference opponents will make the trip to West Hartford to face the Hawks at home in 2010. Hartford will play host to Siena for a doubleheader on April 8 before welcoming the Rhode Island Rams for two contests on April 14. A date with in-state rival Central Connecticut State on April 28 concludes the Hawks' non-conference home schedule.
Hartford has also scheduled doubleheaders at non-conference opponent Holy Cross on March 31, and will travel to Fairfield for twinbills with a pair of in-state rivals, the Sacred Heart Pioneers (April 20) and the Fairfield Stags (April 25).
The Hawks close out the 2010 regular season with five-straight games on the road, including a twinbill at Marist (May 4) followed by a three-game series in Boston with the defending America East Champion Boston University on May 8 & 9.
The top four teams in the conference will qualify for the 2010 America East Softball Championship, which will be held at the site of the top-seed on May 13-15.
