West Hartford, CT – Senior forward Diana Delva picked up her first honor of the season when she was named the America East Player of the Week after helping lead the team to a pair of comeback victories on the road this week.
For the week, Delva averaged 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds-per-game and compiled a pair of high-scoring second halves to lift the Hawks back from double digit deficits against Sacred Heart and St. Joseph's University. Delva also averaged 3.5 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assist-per-game, while shooting 77.8 percent from the field and 80 percent from the foul line.
She opened the week with a team-best 17 points against Sacred Heart, with 11 of those points coming in the second half. All 11 of her second half points came in a three minute span of the second half, helping to overcome a 13-point halftime deficit. Delva followed that performance up with her second double double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds against St. Joseph's, with 13 of those points coming in the second half, including the first six of the stanza and four points in an 18-2 run. Against St. Joseph's she also added two assists and two steals, while tying her career high with five blocks.
the center/forward currently ranks first in the America East, averaging 57.1 shooting, while she is tied for her in rebounding at 8.6 rebounds-per-game. She is also second in blocks (2.3 blocks-per-game) behind only her teammate, Erica Beverly. Delva is also 11th in the conference in scoring at 13.1 points-per-game.
The women's basketball team will play a pair of games in the coming week, the first against the reigning national champion Connecticut Huskies on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. before heading home to host the Northeastern Huskies on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Both games can be heard live on WWUH 91.3 FM, the flagship station for Hartford Women's Basketball, while the Connecticut game can be seen on CPTV and the Northeastern game on CTSN.
