West Hartford, CT – Senior forward/center Diana Delva picked up her second honor of the season when she was named the America East Player of the Week after leading the Hawks to a home victory over the Coppin State Eagles.
Delva finished with her conference leading fifth double-double of the season, and her third straight, with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Delva shot an outstanding 72.7% from the field, missing just three of her 11 shots, continuing to build upon her team and conference-leading season field-goal percentage of 61.7%. She also rejected three opponent's shots to keep up her pace of 2.1 blocks per game.
Delva currently leads the America East, averaging 61.7 shooting, and leads the America East in rebounding at 8.9 rebounds-per-game. Her team leading scoring average of 14.5 points-per-game is currently sixth in the conference. She is also second on the team and in the conference with 23 blocks .
The women's basketball team will play their final non-conference game and the final game in the 2009 calendar year, welcoming the Bowling Green Falcons to West Hartford on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Against the Falcons, the Hawks will be looking to exact revenge from a 52-56 road loss a year ago. Following the Bowling Green game and roll over to the New Year, the Hawks will open conference play on Saturday, January 2 at 4:00 p.m. Both games can be heard live on WWUH 91.3 FM, the flagship station for Hartford Women's Basketball.
