Complete America East Release
Cambridge, MA - University of Hartford volleyball player Kami Nethersole was selected to the America East All-Rookie Team as announced by the conference office on Thursday. The six-player All-Rookie Team also included UMBC's Naomi Bush, the America East Rookie of the Year, Binghamton's Alexandrea Roland, UMBC's Ali Loynachan, and Stony Brook's Sally Downs and Corinne Perry.
Nethersole, a 5-9 outside hitter, hit at a .222 clip to lead the Hawks in hitting percentage. She ranked second on the squad with 2.85 points per set and 2.73 kills per set. Nethersole landed in the top-15 of the conference in three statistical categories including 11th in kills per set, 12th in hitting percentage and 14th in points per set. The Cortlandt Minor, NY native also contributed 15 blocks in her freshman campaign.
"I'm extremely happy that Kami was recognized for her achievements this year,” commented Head Coach Don Ferguson. “She is a very talented student athlete who works hard every match. Although it was disappointing that she wasn't able to complete the conference schedule due to an injury, this award serves as a testament to Kami's potential. I believe she was just beginning to showcase her talents. Her kills-per-set and hitting percentage continually increased as she became further accustomed to the pace of the college game. Kami has a bright future ahead and we will look to her to solidify our offense next season."
Hartford closed out the year with a 7-10 overall record and an 0-10 mark in conference play. The Hawks lose four seniors – Sarah Boss, Hallie Fullagar, Erin Macro and Maddison Molyneux – to graduation but return eight letterwinners including five starters from the 2009 squad.
