Todd Randall enters his 14th season at the helm of the University of Hartford softball program.  He holds the most wins in school history (228) and has led the program to its only two America East Championship appearances.

In 2008, Randall led the Hawks to a winning season for the first time since 2002.  Hartford closed out its 2008 campaign with an overall record of 21-20 (.512), while posting a 9-12 record in the America East.  The 21-win season marks the fifth-highest win total in the program’s 32-year history.  Additionally, junior Brittney Stratton was selected to the America East All-Conference Second Team, the second consecutive season the Hartford pitcher garnered postseason honors.

Randall paced the Hawks to their best conference record ever and came three outs away from playing in the finals of the America East Championship in the 2007 season.  Hartford finished with an overall record of 23-27 and went 12-8 in conference play, good enough for third place in the league.  He also had four players earn postseason honors, including an all-conference first-team pitcher and three members of the all-rookie team.

In 2002, Randall’s squad posted 24 wins – the most by a Hartford team since 1995 – and finished second in the America East regular season standings. Hartford then advanced to the finals of the conference championship before falling to Boston University.

While building his program on the field, Randall has continued to maintain the academic integrity of the Hawks.  The Hartford program’s academic highlight came in 1997 when it finished third in the nation in team GPA with a 3.317, as released in a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll.  Last season, Hartford also earned academic recognition from the NFCA (62nd in the nation in team GPA).
In addition to academics, the team has been honored for its on-the-field sportsmanship, receiving the Connecticut Collegiate Umpires Association’s (CCUA) 1998 Team Sportsmanship Award. The CCUA encompasses all of Connecticut and parts of Massachusetts and New York. Division I, II, and III schools are eligible for the award, of which one is earned each year.

Randall came to Hartford from St. Bonaventure University, where he was head coach of the softball program for four seasons.  During his tenure, the team made marked improvements in all areas of the game.  Randall took over the program in 1993 and raised the win total from six in his first two seasons to 21 over his last two.  The program recorded six Atlantic 10 Conference wins in 1996, while having only two prior conference wins in its seven-year existence. Under Randall’s guidance, his teams set 12 single season records and 11 career records, while improving their runs-scored total from 48 in 1993 to 140 in 1995.

Prior to his position with the softball team, Randall served as the assistant baseball coach at St. Bonaventure from 1990 to 1993.  His primary roles on the coaching staff were to coach first base and the team’s defense. He has also served as an assistant coach with the Wellsville Nitros, a member of the New York Collegiate Baseball League, a wooden-bat league sanctioned by the NCAA and Major League Baseball.

A native of Olean, NY, Randall earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism/mass communications from St. Bonaventure in 1988.  In addition to serving as an instructor at Old Dominion University’s Best of the East Baseball Camp and St. Bonaventure’s Top Gun Baseball Camp, he founded Randall’s St. Bonaventure University Diamonds in the Rough Softball Camp.  At Hartford he founded the Randall Softball Academy, which holds several on- and off-site camps and clinics throughout the year.

Randall, who also worked with the Big League Baseball Camp in Montclair, NJ, and Hempstead, NY, resides in Windsor, CT.
