Amherst, MA - The University of Hartford men's and women's track and field teams competed at their final warm-up before the America East Championships next weekend. The men's team finished eighth of nine teams, while the women finished sixth of seven teams at the UMass Spring Inviational this weekend.
The jumps continued to be the hot spot for the men's team with Jaimal Munir and Anthony Oluwanifise leading the way. Munir finish third in the high jump, with his best attempt of the event at 6' 1.25”. Oluwanifse won the triple jump event and was one of three top-five finishers in that event. He was joined by Stephen Jospitre and Munir. Oluwanifise led with a distance of 47' 3.5”, while Jospitre finished third (43' 1.75”) and Munir in fourth with a distance of 40' 10.5”.
Frederic Langford also has an impressive run in the 400-meter hurdles, where he finished fifth overall in a time of 58.07. Jospitre and Oluwanifise also faired well in the sprints where they finished seventh and ninth respectively in the 100-meter dash. Jospitre finished in a time of 11.40, just .06 seconds out of scoring position, while Oluwanifise saw a time of 11.52.
Brandon Coleman finished one spot short of scoring in the 400-meter dash with his time of 51.09 good for seventh place, just .35 seconds out of sixth place. The men's 4x100-meter relay team finished fourth overall with a time of 44.50. Also scoring for the Hawks was Dushein Ranglin in the javelin throw with his distance of 170' placing him fourth overall.
On the women's side, Anike Orimogunje led the Hawks sprinters with top-five finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events. She finished fourth in the short course event with a time of 13.00 and placed third in the 200m event in a time of 26.68. Kaycee Martinez was also a two-event scorer in the 100 and 400-meter hurdle events. She finished fifth in the shorter event with a time of 15.84 and fourth in the 400m hurdles with her time of 1:05.82, two seconds faster than her own school record.
Also entering the scoring column for the Hawks was Stefanie Lombardi with her third place finish in the 1,500-meter run. She finished the middle-distance event in a time of 4:47.67, breaking the oldest record on the books, originally set in 1994. The Hawks 4x400-meter relay team also saw a fifth place finish with a combined time of 4:08.26.
On the field side of the event the Hawks Sherilyn Nicholas was the only member to score points with her fourth place finish in the high jump. She saw a height of 5' 1”.
Both teams will next compete at the America East Championships next weekend to be held at UMBC in Baltimore, MD.
