Worcester, MA - The Men's and women's track and field teams competed at Holy Cross over the weekend. The event began on Thursday and Friday with the men's secathlon and the women's heptathlon. A traditional meet was held on Saturday with the men's team finishing fifth of six team and the women fourth of four teams.
The men's team was represented by Alex Ivanov in the decathlon, he finished 15th of 22 total participants. The women's team had three participants in the heptathlon. Latasha Jarrett led the way in fourth place with Sherilyn Nicholas in sixth. Diana Christopolous rounded out the Hawks participants with a 12th place finish.
Ivanov finished with a score of 4669. His best event came in the 100m where he ran 11.98 which scored him 655 points. Jarrett and Nicholas finished with scores of 3580 and 3398 respectively. Jarrett's best event came in the 200m where she ran 27.09, scoring 704 points. Also in the process she set a new school record in the LJ with 16' 2". Nicholas' best event also came in the 200m where she ran 27.48 to score 672 points. Christopoulos finished with a score of 2136. She threw 31' 8.5" in the shot put for 507 points.
The jumps again led the way for the Hawks, finishing second, third and fourth in the long jump. Dushein Ranglin (21' 8.25"), Anthony Oluwanifise (20' 8.5" and Stephan Jospitre (20' 6.5") paced the Hawks jumping team. Oluwanifise and Jospitre also finished first and second in the triple jump event. Oluwanifise finished with a distance of 44' 7”, while Jospitre went 43' 4.5”.
Ryan Trupin finished third in the HJ with Jaimaal Munir in a tie for fourth. Trupin finished with a best height of 6' 3", while Munir went as high as 6' 1".
Jospitre also paced the Hawks sprinters with a fourth place finish in the 100-meter event, with a time of 11.61. Oluwanifise and Ranglin finished fourth and fifth in the 200-meter dash with time of 23.30 and 23.56 respectively. Brandon Coleman saw a season best with his fifth place finish in the 400-meter run (51.72). Fawaz Al-Sudairi also saw a season best in the same event with his eighth place finish in a time of 53.83.
Anike Orimogunje scored in both the 100m and 200m events for the women's team. She finished eighth (13.33) and seventh (27.13) respectively in the two events, both season bests for her. Stefanie Lombardi saw the best finish of the day for the Hawks with her second place finish in the 5,000-meter with a time of 18:39. Kaycee Martinez saw a fifth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.73.
Ariana Bass finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.30, while Liz Foster saw a time of 12:09.85 in the 3,000m steeplechase to place fifth overall, setting a new school record.
Jarrett and Nicholas came back after their strong showing in the heptathlon to finish fifth and seventh respectively in the high jump. Jarrett saw a height of 5' 3”, while Nicholas highest jump came at 5' 1”. Shay Brown led the throwers with a third place finish in the shot put and seventh in the discus. She threw 34' 10.5" in the shot put and 95' 8" in the discus.
