PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sunday's final round of the New England Championship was canceled due to inclement weather, and the University of Hartford men's golf team finished tied for seventh place overall as Saturday's first round scores became final.
Sacred Heart took home team honors in the 17-team field with a team total of 296. Hartford, which tied with Connecticut at 307, was only 11 shots off the pace.
Leading the way for the Hawks in the first round was freshman Nick MacDonald, who tied for eighth with a two-over par round of 74. Junior A.J. Oleksak shot 76 and tied for 17th overall. Rounding out the scoring for Hartford were freshmen Maki Kobayashi (77, T-27th) and Zack Ungvarsky (80, T-45th) and senior Dustin Wetherup (83, T-67th).
Hartford will next compete at the America East Championship on May 5-6 at the Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, NY. The Hawks are the defending champions and will look to add to their 11 conference titles.
