Women's Track Sets Two School Records at UConn Alumni Invitational

 

STORRS, CT - The University of Hartford men's and womens' track and field teams competed at the UConn Alumni Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks finished eighth on both sides of the house. The Hawks set a pair of school records on the women's side of the house.

 

The Women's team was led by Stefanie Lombardi and Kaycee Martinez, who set new school records in the 5,000-meter run and 400-meter hurdles, respectively. Lomdardi ran a time of 18:30.28 and finished second overall in the ditance event, while Martinez finished with a season best time of 1:07.23, finishing fourth overall. Also fairing well in the hurdles event was Ariana Bass, who finished seventh overall with a time of 1:08.66, which was also under the old school record.

 

Regina Robert and Anike Orimogunje paced the hawls sprinters, both finishing with season best times in the 200-meter dash. Robers posted a 27.42 overall and Orimogunje a 27.64 final time. Sherilyn Nicholas narrowly missed finishing in the points column in the high jump with her ninth place overall finish, with a height of 5' 1". Also just missing out of scoring in the discus throw was Shay Brown, who threw a season best of 98' 10".

 

The jumps continue to be the strong point for the men's team with Ryan Trupin and Jaimaal Munir finishing third and sixth in the high jupm, Dushein Ranglin finishing sixth in the long jump and Anthony Oluwanifise finishing fifth in the triple jump. Trupin and Munir posted heighs of 6' 1.25" and 5' 9.25 inches respectively in the high jump, while Rangling finished with a distance of 21' 3.5" in the long jump.

 

Oluwanifise finished his triple jump with a distance of 44' 4.75 inches, while Stephen Jospitre finished sixth in the same event. On the running side of the house, the Hawks Frederic Langford had a strong showing in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.33 placing him in sixth place overall. Also the Hawks 4x400-meter relay finished seventh overall with a team of Langford, Brandon Coleman, Alex Ivanov and Ranglin.

 

The track and field team will be back in action on April 18 & 19 at the Holy Cross Multi-Event Competition in Worcester, MA.
