LAKEWOOD, NJ - The University of Hartford women's golf team couldn't hold off a strong charge from Hofstra University on Monday, finishing second in the six-team field at the Monmouth Hawks Invitational at Eagle Ridge Golf Course.
The Hawks, who held a six-shot lead over the Pride after the first round of play, shot 336 in the final round to finish the tournament at 660. Hofstra shot 328 as a team in the final round to finish two shots better at 658.
Freshman Sadie Heald tied for third overall, the best finish of her collegiate career. She followed Sunday's career-low round of 76 with a score of 80 to finish at 156 for the tournament. Only Fairleigh Dickinson's Eve Mayr (75-75?150) and Monmouth's Rylee Plitz (78-76?154) carded lower totals.
Junior Juliana Carrillo finished tied for seventh overall with a final round 82, giving her a total of 162 for the tournament. Rounding out the scores for the Hawks were freshman Catie Dillman (81-88?169, T-11th), sophomore Megan Claxton (87-86?173, 17th), freshman Kara Sikorski (96-87?183, T-23rd) and freshman Paige Gauthier (88-98?186, 26th).
Hartford will next compete at the Hartford Hawks Invitational on April 16-17 at Rockledge Golf Course.
