Three Individual Winners for Hawks at Trinity Invitational

 

 

Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford track and field teams opened their spring season at the Trinity College Bantam Invitational Track and Field Meet on Saturday and took home victories in multiple field events for the men and the women. The meet was not a team scored event.

 

Latasha Jarrett and Anthony Oluwanifise put up the only individual event wins for the Hawks, while the women's team also placed first in the 4x100-meter relay. Oluwanifise saw the most success with first place finishes in the long jump and the triple jump, while also finishing second in the 200-meter run. Jarrett won the high jump.

 

Oluwanifise's deistance of 22' 10” was more than two feet better than his closest competition in the long jump, while his triple jump distance was more than four feet better, 45' 10”. He also set a new school record in the triple jump, breaking one he had set last season. He also finished with a time of 23.11 in the 200m event.

 

The Hawks other field success came in the high jump, where three members finished in the top-eight. Ryan Trupin (5' 11.5”) and Jaimaal Munir (5' 11.5”) finished second and third respectively, while Stephan Jospitre (5' 7.75”) finished in a tie for seventh place. Alex Ivanov also finished third in the pole vault with jump of 8'. Munir, Jospitre and Dushein Ranglin also joined Oluwanifise in the top-eight in the long jump, while Jospitre finished second in the triple jump, just behind Oluwanifise.

 

On the women's side, Jarrett was joined by Sherilyn Nicholas in the top-five of the high jump. Jarrett's event winning jump saw a height of 5' 1.75”, while Nicholas posted a height of 4' 11.75” for third place. The Hawks 4x100-meter relay team of Kaycee Martinez, Regina Roberts, Camille Cameron and Anike Orimogunje finished in a time of 51.15 for their first place finish; in an event they were very successful during the indoor season.

 

Martinez also broke a school record in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 15.69 seconds, which was more than half a second faster than the record. Her time in the 100m hurdles was good for third place, while she also finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.91.

 

The field success continued with Shay Brown finishing fourth and Diana Christopoulos sixth in both the the shot put and discus throw. Brown's shot put throw of 35' 10.75” broke the second oldest school record on the books.

 

Both track teams will next run at the UConn Invitational on April 7. The event begins at 11:00 a.m. in Storrs, CT.
