Boston, MA - The University of Hartford track and field team competed in its final event before the holiday break at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday in Boston, MA. The Hawks set four new school records and had an outstanding performance by first year field athlete Jaimaal Munir, winning the triple jump and finishing fourth in the high jump.
Munir finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 42' 9”, setting a new school record during the event. He also had a top-10 finish in the high jump where he finished in a tie for fourth place with a height of 6' 2”. Munir was part of a one-three punch in the triple jump with Stephen Josiprite finishing third with his distance of 42' 6”.
The Hawks top performance on the track came from Kaycee Martinez who finished fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.37, this coming the day after she competed at the URI Pentathlon, attempting to qualify for the America East Championships in the multi event category.
Also finishing in the top-five for a women's event was Latasha Jarrett in the high jump with her height of 5' 2”, good for fourth place overall. Jarrett's high jump tied her own school record. Stephanie Lombardi set a new school record in the 3,000-meter run with her time of 10:47.99 in the distance event.
On the men's side two other school records were set with Phil Weinholtz breaking his own record with his time of 2:00.48 in the 800-meter run. Brien Woodaman also set a new school record in the weight throw, his top event. He threw the 35-pound weight a distance of 35' 10”, while also setting a new career mark in the shot put with his longest throw of 34' 1.25”.
The track and field teams will now be off until after the New Year when they begin competition at the Sorlein Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island on January 19 & 20 in Kingston, RI.
