West Hartford, CT ? The University of Hartford outdoor track and field teams competed at the University of Massachusetts Invitational on Saturday. The women's team tallied 34 points to score a sixth place finish out of seven teams while the men's team ranked ninth out of nine teams with 9.5 points. The Hawks notched a first place finish while putting down four school records.
Kaycee Martinez notched a first place finish in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the Hawks on Saturday, racing to a 1:02.23 time in the event. The junior has scored a top finish in the 400-meter event on four occasions so far this season.
Freshman Kristalena Lamore was the top point earner for the Hawks as she scored in three events. The rookie placed third in the 100-meter dash (12.65) and the long jump (5.50-meters), while taking seventh in the triple jump (10.87-meters), combining for 14 points on the afternoon. Lamore's distance in the long jump and the triple jump erased her own school records set earlier this season.
Adding fifth place points for the Hawks was Raquel Payne and Nicolle Adams. Payne clocked in with a time of 12.90 in the 100-meter dash to earn four points while Adams' distance of 5.19-meters in the long jump also tacked on four points to the Hawks' total. Adams also notched an eighth place performance in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.01 in the event.
Ryan Trupin led the Hartford men, scoring the team's highest finish of the afternoon in the high jump. The senior marked a height of 1.91-meters, tying for fifth place to earn 3.5 points for the squad. Also performing well in the field events was Stephan Jospitre who notched a seventh place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 12.95-meters.
In the track events, Adam Wells and Josh Hummel added points for the Hawks while smashing school records in their respective events. Hummel broke an 11-year old school-record with his time of 1:56.04, finishing sixth in the 800-meter run, while classmate Wells tallied a single point with his eighth place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (16.16) to break his school record set last season.
The Hawks will compete again on Saturday, May 2nd when they head to Binghamton to compete at the two-day America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
