Mathis Repeats as America East Rookie of the Week

West Hartford, CT - University of Hartford freshman guard Ilicia Mathis repeats as the America East Rookie of the Week after winning the award last week for the first time in her career. Mathis averaged 12.5 points-per-game over the Hawks two games last week, both in conference play.

She opened the week by leading the Hawks in their conference-opening win over Binghamton with a career-best 15 points. It was the second time in as many games she had surpassed her career-high in points.

Mathis then netted double-figure points for the third-straight game on Saturday at Maine when she put up 10 points, including two three-pointers in her only two attempts.

She averaged three rebounds and two steals last week and finished shooting .571 (8-of-14) from the field and .875 (7-of-8) from the foul line. In addition, she kept a good handle on the ball, only turning the ball over three times during 50 minutes on the court.

The rookie has earned a spot in the starting line-up, having now started in the last four games for Hartford and has helped the Hawks start off conference play a perfect 2-0.

The women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday night when they host the UMBC Retrievers at Chase Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion at 7:00 p.m.
