Boston, MA - The men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Boston, MA for the New England Championship. The women's team finished 34th out of 45 teams, while the men's team placed 42nd out of 47 teams.
For the Hartford women, senior Elizabeth Foster led the Hawks for the fourth consecutive time this season, completing the 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:50 for a 52nd place finish. She finished just one minute and 31 seconds behind race-leader Andrea Walkonen of Boston University. Following Foster was junior Stefanie Lombardi, who posted a time of 20:28. She placed 196th in the 5k.
Just 11 seconds behind Lombardi was teammate Leanna Godfrey, who clocked a time of 20:39, while Kaycee Martinez finished fourth for the Hawks. Rounding out the top-seven were Ariana Bass, Biliana Mihaylova and Latasha Jarrett. Bass posted a time of 21:39; Mihaylova crossed the finish line at 22:21, while Jarrett finished with a time of 23:14.
Crossing the finish line first for the Hartford men was sophomore Jonas Hampton, who finished the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26:42, just two seconds above his personal-best time, for a 145th place finish. Hampton has been Hartford's top-finisher in each of their four meets this season. Finishing second for Hartford was freshman Andrew Chalmers, who clocked a time of 28:04. Following just 10 seconds behind teammate Chalmers was rookie Patrick Murray, who posted a time of 28:14, placing 249th overall.
Hartford junior Wes Melnik and sophomore Matthew Le clocked in with times of 28:46 and 28:51, respectively. Freshmen Eric Flaman and Alexander Welford rounded out the top-seven for the Hawks with times of 29:55 and 29:57.
Hartford men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on October 25 at the Central Connecticut Invitational held in New Britain, CT. This will be the Hawks' final tune-up before the America East Championship, which takes place the following week.
