Two Hawks Earn LAX Conference Honors

BALTIMORE ? Two University of Hartford lacrosse players earned America East honors for the 2008 season, as announced at the conference's annual awards banquet on Wednesday night.

Freshman Michael Cudmore was named to the all-rookie team while senior Chris Griffin was selected to the all-academic team. Awards were determined by a vote of the conference's six head coaches.

Cudmore, a midfielder who also spent time at attack, ranked fourth on the team in scoring in his rookie campaign. He led the Hawks with 13 assists and also added five goals for 18 points. He played in all 13 games and made seven starts and scooped up 43 ground balls.

Griffin earned a spot on the all-academic team for the second straight year. He played in all 13 games and made seven starts as a long stick middie, finishing with a team-high 45 ground balls while scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist.

The all-academic team has been selected based on the student-athlete's academic and athletic accomplishments. Academic achievement for consideration requires student-athletes to have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 entering the season. Athletically, student-athletes are required to be a nomination on the postseason awards ballot, which is determined by the league's head coaches. Team size for team sports is based on the number of athletes that participate in a contest at one time (e.g., 10 on the field for men's lacrosse). Freshmen are not eligible for the all-academic teams and grade-point averages are taken from the semester prior to the competing athletic season.
