Boston, MA - The men's and women's track and field teams continued their indoor season competing at the Harvard University Open Track Meet on Saturday. Members of the women's track team also competed at the 14th Annual Rhode Island Pentathlon on Friday afternoon. Both teams will return to action after the New Year at the Reebok Indoor on January 25th in Boston, MA.
The weekend opened with four members of the women's team competing at Rhode Island. Latasha Jarrett led the Hawks in the pentathlon with a ninth place finish. She finished with a total of 2,866 points, 480 behind the leader, TyLynn Graham from Rhode Island. Jarrett's best individual finish came in a five-way tie in the high jump where she hit a height of 1.58 meters. Jarrett's 2,866 points also broke the school record, which she previously held.
Sherilyn Nicholas finished just shy of the top-10 at Rhode Island with a final score of 2,644 in 11th place. Also competing at Rhode Island was Erica Broadbent (14th place, 2,297 points), Diana Christopoulos (17th place, 1,794 points) and Biliana Mihaylova (18th place, 1,678 points).
Anthony Oluwanifise highlighted the Harvard Invitational for Hartford with a first place finish in the triple jump. This is the second time he has won the event in as many meets this season. Oluwanifise posted a total distance of 44 feet 4.75 inches. He also finished in the top-10 in the long jump where he saw a distance of 21 fee 3.25 inches for sixth place.
Oluwanifise was joined in the top-10 in both events by Stephan Jospitre. He finished sixth in the triple jump and eighth in the long jump. His triple jump saw a combined distance of 43 feet 4.25 inches and he finished with a long jump of 20 feet 2.25 inches.
Ryan Trupin saw a top-five finish in the high jump where he posted a height of six feet 4.75 inches for fourth place. Warrren Lane and Wes Melnik saw the only top-10 finish in track events for the men's team. Lane finished ninth in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:07.37, while Melnik finished 10th in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:07.19.
The women's team saw top finishes from six different players with the best finish a second place finish in the 4x440 yard relay. The relay team of Kaycee Martinez , Ariana Bass, Jarrett and Nicholas finished the mile in a time of 4:05.07. Martinez combined with Erika Schramm to finish third and fifth in the 400-meter dash. Martinez saw the best time of the two with a 59.16 for third place, while Schramm finished in a time of 1:00.77 for fifth place.
Stefanie Lombardi saw the next best finish on the track with a third place time in the 3000-meter run. She posted a time of 10:46.30. Also finishing in the top-10 in track events was Ariana Bass who finished sixth in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:20.95.
The field side of the team was led by Nicholas and Jarrett who finished third and eighth respectively in the high jump. Nicholas saw a height of five feet three inches which ties the school record and surpassed her effort from the pentathlon the day before. Jarrett saw a height of five feet one inch.
