BOSTON - The University of Hartford women's soccer team knocked off Boston University in a 1-0 final at Nickerson Field on Thursday night.
The Hawks (5-5-4 overall, 3-0-2 AE) remained unbeaten in America East play by handing the Terriers (7-6-2 overall, 4-1-0 AE), the consensus favorite in the preseason coaches poll, their first conference loss of the season. Senior Sara Flowers netted the game-winning goal in the 56th minute, and classmate Elizabeth Cook made the margin stand to record her sixth shutout of the season.
Sophomore Laura Guigli assisted on the game's only goal, feeding a ball into the box that Flowers buried into the lower corner. It was her first goal of the season.
Hartford outshot BU 10-7 in the contest. The Terriers put only three shots on goal, all of which were stopped by Cook. BU goalkeeper Christina Reuter also made three saves.
Hartford will next host first-place University of New Hampshire on Sunday, October 21 at Al-Marzook Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
