Cross Country Opens 2007 Season at Stony Brook - Women Second, Men Fifth



 

Stony Brook, NY - The University of Hartford cross country teams opened the 2007 season at the Stony Brook Cross Country Invitational on Friday afternoon. The women's team finished second overall out of four teams, while the men's team finished fifth out of five teams.

 

The women's team was led by sophomore Stefanie Lombardi who finished third overall. Lombardi finished the 4,300-meter course in a time of 16:42.66, less than a minute behind race leader Laura Huet of Stony Brook. Joining her in the top-10 finishers was Elizabeth Foster who finished in 10th overall with a time of 17:40.78.

 

Four other runners finished within the top-20 runner for Hartford. Leanna Godfrey led the Hawks newcomers with a 12th place (17:59.11) finish. She was followed by Ariana Bass in 16th place (18:10.92), Mary Bumiller in 17th place (18:15.15) and Melanie Wilson in 18th place (18:23.48.

Also running for the women's team was Kaycee Martinez who finished in 24th place (19:01.91), Jennifer Krupski who finished in 25th place (19:02.59) and Biliana Mihaylova who finished in 29th place (19:37.87).

 

The men's team was led by freshman Jonas Hampton who finished in 14th place overall with a time of 18:58.17 over the 5,500-meter course. Michael Dionne was the Hawks second lead runner, finishing 35th overall with a time of 20:17.54, Finishing just behind him was Wes Melnik who finished in a time 20:18.15.

Also running for Hartford was Matthew Le who in finished 42nd place (21:44.32), Alex Ivanov who finished in 43rd place (22:04.88), Frederic Langford who finished in 44th place (22:15.36), Jordan Pike who finished in 45th place (22:40.57) and Kyle Blum who finished in 47th place (24:54.14).

 

The men's and women's cross country teams will both next compete at the Quinnipiac Invitational on Friday, September 21 at 4:00 p.m. in Hamden, CT.
