The University of Hartford men’s soccer team fought hard, but fell to the No. 12 Boston College Eagles in its season opener by a 3-2 final on Wednesday afternoon at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. The Hawks fall to 0-1 overall after dropping their first opening game since the 2007 season while the Eagles improve to 1-0 in the young 2010 season
The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped its fourth-straight match by a 3-1 final on the road at Marist on Tuesday night. Freshman Dionna Kirton and junior Lindsay Makowicki led the Hawks, each finishing with 11 kills. Hartford falls to 0-4 on the season with the loss.
University of Hartford Director of Athletics Patricia Meiser officially kicked off the new academic year with the annual All Student-Athlete welcome on Monday. Joining Meiser to welcome the student-athletes back to campus for 2010-11 was President Walter Harrison and the entire athletics staff.
The Hartford women’s soccer team has earned its first conference honor of the season, as junior forward Breeanna Robinson earned the America East Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Robinson, the team’s leading scorer in 2009, netted three goals during the Hawks’ trip to Philadelphia for the Temple Owls Tournament over the weekend.
University of Hartford softball coach Diana Consolmagno has announced the hiring of assistant coaches Sarah Kalka and Molly McCarthy. Kalka joins the staff as a full-time assistant while McCarthy will serve as the Hawks’ pitching coach.
